Mining
It seems likely that Hollyford Village developed in conjunction with the mining industry in the area during the first half of the nineteenth century. The Copper Mines operated from very early in the eighteen hundreds up until about eighteen sixty two when the price of Copper dropped. There are no statistics available after that period and one must assume that was the end of operations. Mining was conducted through underground tunnels, some at six hundred feet below ground level. Upwords of three hundred Cornish Miners were employed there, which must have been of great commercial value to the area. In more recent times, 1957, a company named Minerals Development Corporation LTD spent some time drilling around the site of the mines and exploring the tunnels. No development resulted. More information and statistics on the mines are available by contacting this website.
